SCIENCE LESSONS

To support the need for distance learning science curriculum, we have made many of our classroom educational materials available online. We have curriculum available for 2nd-7th grade and high school, most of which is available in both English and Spanish. All lessons align with Next Generation Science Standards and can be completed by students on their own time or led by a teacher.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: POLLUTION PREVENTION AND SEA LEVEL RISE
In partnership with the Regional Water Quality Control Plant

Pollution Prevention

Oil on a road surface going down a storm drain

Grades: 2nd-5th

Pollution comes in so many forms. Our six lesson topics range from the water cycle to bugs in our ecosystems to the fascinating microbes that help clean our wastewater.

Sea Level Rise

A surface view of the San Francisco Bay

Grades: K-5th

These three lessons explore sea level rise in the San Francisco Bay Area including what is causing rising water levels, and how it is affecting shoreline habitat.

MIDDLE SCHOOL: POLLUTION PREVENTION
In partnership with the Regional Water Quality Control Plant

A water quality plant facility

Microbes in Sewage

Grade: 6th-7th
NGSS: LS1.A - Structure and function of living things
In this virtual lab, students learn about different single-celled and multicellular organisms that help break down organic material in our wastewater. They will put their knowledge to the test by observing real-life footage of these microbes and identifying what they see.

HIGH SCHOOL

5 sudents exploring a creek

Creek Scientists

Grade: 9-12
NGSS: LS4.D - Biodiversity and sustainability
In a guided investigation and lab report, students will analyze water quality data and classify invertebrates from a local creek in order to make conclusions about local water quality.

All of the Creek Scientist lesson files are on Google Drive and are set to view only. To get access to the data sheets within the lesson, make a copy to save to your own Google Drive: "File" --> "Make a Copy"
