SAN FRANCISQUITO AND MATADERO CREEKS

The San Francisquito Watershed encompasses 48 square miles in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. We have restored habitat along the creek at many sites in a variety of rural and urban areas, including Bol Park and a “daylighted” section of Sausal Creek at Portola Valley Town Center. Other sites include Hopkins Park and El Palo Alto Park in Palo Alto, and the garden at the Alma Street pedestrian bridge in Menlo Park, which now includes a rain garden component to promote on-site retention of rainwater and groundwater recharge.

The water quality of the creek was monitored by local creek stewards, and this historical information is available here: Water Quality Monitoring.

Work along San Francisquito Creek today includes some habitat restoration and creek cleanup events.
