Calling all women and non-binary identifying community members! Join Peninsula Open Space Trust and Grassroots Ecology for an affinity group volunteering event to restore California habitat at Pearson-Arastradero Preserve. Our facilitators have years of experience building welcoming and inclusive spaces for community members. This space will be held for cisgender women, transgender women, and nonbinary people to gather and develop a sense of belonging in the outdoors.
Volunteers will remove weed species from restoration zones and sensitive habitat areas within Arastradero Preserve. Early season weeding is generally more detailed work, removing cotyledons (baby weeds) while remaining close to the ground. We may begin to move around and remove some of our larger weeds as well, depending on progress made during the event. Additionally, we may support maintenance of planting areas by shoveling and moving mulch with wheelbarrows. This event will involve lifting, digging, carrying, bending, and walking on uneven terrain.
Pearson-Arastradero Preserve has expansive oak woodlands and grasslands with beautiful trees and wildflowers and is home to an abundance of wildlife, including deer, bobcats, coyotes, and many species of birds and insects. The work you do will support the health of the preserve’s ecosystems!
Visit Grassroots Ecology’s Pearson-Arastradero Preserve webpage to learn more about the ecosystem and accessibility considerations. We will release more details closer to the date of the event. Keep an eye out for an email containing information about what to bring, wear, etc!
Please also note that this activity is best for children ages 14+. All minors must be accompanied by adults for the entirety of the event. Thank you!
This event is part of POST’s community event series. These events are open to the general public and POST donors alike, and we hope you will join us! We also curate a separate series of private events for our donor community. Find out more about how you can support POST here: openspacetrust.org/support.
