Learn about the superheroes of the tree world! Join us to hear about redwood trees, including their ecology, adaptations, and what makes them so special.
Redwood ecosystems provide significant ecological benefits, but logging and development have caused a large number of old growth forests to disappear over the last 150 years. However, these resilient trees are not going anywhere!
At Bear Creek Redwoods Preserve in Los Gatos, Grassroots Ecology has been working to restore one of these majestic and essential redwood ecosystems. This talk will describe redwood trees' unique adaptations and interesting ecology, as well as the successes, challenges, and stories of those protecting these lands.
We hope those who attend will leave inspired and empowered to restore biodiversity near and far! For example, on the Sunday morning after this talk takes place, join us at a local restoration project in Los Gatos under the redwoods. 😊
This talk will be held at the Los Gatos Library and will not be available online. No registration is required.
Tyler Feld’s love of the outdoors began from early childhood experiences exploring the oak woodlands of Southern California and the pine forests of the Sierra Nevadas. As a teenager with a career goal to “protect the trees,” he pursued a B.A. Environmental Studies from UC Santa Cruz.
Following his degree, Tyler spent 5 years teaching and directing overnight outdoor education programs throughout the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Sierra Nevadas to share his love of the outdoors with youth. His continued love of ecology and stewardship led him to his current role as project manager with Grassroots Ecology starting in 2021. Tyler guides hands-on habitat restoration experiences and inclusive environmental education programs across the Santa Cruz Mountains.
