High School Youth Stewards at Bol Park/San Francisquito Creek

Join Grassroots Ecology for our high school Youth Stewards volunteer program at San Francisquito Creek and Bol Park! We will work together over 12 weeks to create and sustain pockets of biodiversity for insects, birds, other wildlife to thrive in the urban landscape.

All participants must register themselves for each session they will attend. Registrations will open one week before each meeting.

Meeting Schedule:

Volunteers will meet at various locations over the course of the program. Please check this section for meeting locations for the week. Review this map for a list of potential meeting locations, and keep an eye on your email inbox each week. Grassroots Ecology staff will send you additional information about each upcoming session.

*We will not meet on February 14, 2025 or April 11, 2025, in observance of the Palo Alto Unified School District academic calendar.

**On March 14, 2025, we will extend session times to 6pm due to daylight saving time.

Prepare for Outdoor Activities:

  • Reusable water bottle

  • Snacks, if desired

  • Long pants, long sleeves recommended

  • Sturdy closed-toed shoes

  • Hat/sunscreen or rain gear/boots

  • Epi-Pen or allergy medicine, if applicable

  • Plan for potential exposure to sun, poison oak, ticks

We will provide gloves and tools.

Event Cancellations:

In the event that we must cancel a workday due to extreme weather conditions or poor air quality, a Grassroots Ecology staff person will reach out via email no later than 5:00 PM the day prior to this event.

Grassroots Ecology encourages people from all identities and backgrounds to participate in our programs. Many of our programs are outdoors and involve moving and working in a variety of landscapes. If you have accessibility concerns (e.g. allergies, limited mobility, learning differences), our projects are flexible and we are happy to work with you. Please reach out to the workday facilitator so we can prepare for your participation.
